Get ready for the Spring art fairs

As every year at the end of March, Paris becomes the international capital of drawing and paper-based arts, featuring 2 major art fairs on drawing, many themed exhibitions in museums and a fair on prints. A true feast for drawing fans!

At Drawing now!, you will see the contemporary practice of drawing and its incredible variety. Always at Carreau du Temple (near République), 71 galleries will present the last works of artists we follow closely (March 27-30). We’ll be there on Thursday 27th from 1 to 4pm if you want to discuss the artworks appealing to you (send us a note info@cityartinsider.com).

If you want to see drawings of the Old Masters from the 17th-18th and 19th centuries, as well as Modern artists from the 20th century like Chagall, Munch or Ingres, you will find them at Salon du dessin at Bourse Brogniart with 39 galleries presenting (March 26-31).

A more recent fair, the 4th edition of Paris Print Fair presents… prints spanning a large period of time and place, combining great masters such as Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, Miro, Picasso, masters of Japanese prints and contemporary artists, at Couvent des Cordeliers (March 27-30).

This year, this Drawing Week is scheduled a week before the Art Paris and PAD fairs, a good move to give us more time to take advantage of all of them.

Art Paris art fair is the Spring meeting for contemporary art. A bit more national and reasonable in terms of prices than Art Basel Paris in October, you will have the opportunity to see the works of artists presented by 170 art galleries under the beautiful ornaments and glass-ceiling of Grand-Palais (April 3-6). This year, the fair opens up to design and make a focus on Figurative painting in France - we strongly look forward to visiting it!

Pavillon des Arts et du Design or PAD is a delight for design and decorative arts, showing the best of various key moments of the 20th century - Art Deco, 40’s and 50’s, Architects furniture, the 80’s to today’s pieces in wood, metal, glass, textile, ceramics... (in the Tuileries Garden on rue de Rivoli side, April 3-7)

If you are interested in an experimental approach to images, or artistic experimentation based on photography, the work of 16 artists are gathered by Unrepresented by approche in the intimate private mansion Le Molière (April 4-6).

At the end of May, again at at Grand Palais, the talent of almost 500 designers working with ceramics, glass, textiles, wood and metal will be displayed at Revelations 2025, celebrating the best of craft. This event is a Biennial, meaning pieces are not on sale during the event (May 21-25).

For Asia Week Paris, specialised art dealers are coming from France, Belgium, Great Britain and the United States to settle at the Pagoda, former home of the Chinese dealer and collector Ching Tsai Loo (1880-1957), with its red-ochre façade and Chinese-inspired architectural elements (The Printemps des arts asiatiques, June 5 to 12).

We recommend these museum exhibitions

At Centre Pompidou, we love the paintings of Suzanne Valadon, a bold and pioneering female painter (1865-1938), especially acclaimed for her nudes both male and female (until May 26). Even if you visited the Louvre previously, it’s worth braving the crowds again to browse the Decorative arts rooms to see Louvre couture, a display of 65 haute couture fashion silhouettes (until July 21).

At Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection, Corps et âmes explores the theme of bodies, and how they reflect our souls, with an excellent array of contemporary artists (Arthur Jafa, Marlene Dumas, Duane Hanson… (until August 25). The Centre Pompidou researched deeply to trace 150 African and Afro-descendant artists, from Africa to the Americas, active in Paris from 1950-2000. The exhibition Paris noir, is already presented as a milestone (until 30 juin 2025).

At Musée d’Art moderne de Paris, Matisse and Marguerite, his daughter, is the focus of a show with 110 artworks (April 4- August 2025) and the German painter from The Blue Rider circle, Gabriele Münter has her first retrospective in France (April 4-August 24).

For David Hockney 25, the entire exhibition spaces of Fondation Louis Vuitton will host 400 artworks from 1955 to 2025 of the celebrated British artist, paintings, photos, videos to Ipad drawings (April 9-Sept 1st).

Was the blurry effect of some paintings of Monet voluntary or the result of a bad vision? Musée de l’Orangerie choose this angle in Out of focus. Another vision of art, from 1945 to nowadays (April 30 avril to August 18). Impressionists lovers will want to see the exhibition on Eugene Boudin, considered a father of the movement, at Musee Marmottan (April 9 avril to August 31 août 2025).
